Els Ports Mountain Bike Center – Route 2
MORELLA, ON THE SKY LINE
There are some images that are enough to see them only once so that they are forever printed in memory. They are unmistakable, particular, unrepeatable, beautiful images. The silhouette of Morella is one of them: as soon as a road revolt shows it to the traveler for the first time, he will know for sure, and will always remain in his memory.
The route we propose makes the camera mandatory; It is an itinerary of views of Morella, with more spectacular views than we can see from the different accesses by road. The tour is one of those strips of postcards that sell in the places of memories, but sewn to pedal strokes on the back of our mountain bike. Let's not expect, however, a relaxed walk. We will have to ascend ramps that will make our chest rumble with each beat, and we will descend others that will force us to concentrate the five senses in what we do, although we will also have a somewhat flatter stretch to enjoy the views. It is a short route, it has a total of about 18 kilometers, but with a cumulative ascent of just over 600 meters, a route, then, brief but intense, and also very complete, in sports and extra-sports.
The level of difficulty of the journey (red), it is for several reasons: one is that it takes us from the Giner Factory to the cruise altitude in a hard ascent quite sustained, by firm somewhat loose at times, but very cyclable, another is the descent from the Serra de l'Àguila to the Bergantes, a steep and technical descent, although it is true that the most compromised points are few and very brief, and the last reason is the ascent to Morella, again very hard. These three elements are the ones that mainly determine the level of difficulty.
In any case, they are not enough to make this route exclusive for trained and highly technical athletes. The first section of ascent, climbing it on foot would not delay us more than 30 minutes on the calculated schedule. Less would even delay us by descending the section on foot to the Bergantes. And the access to Morella, in addition to the alternative to dismount the bike when we please, (which would take us less than those 30 minutes), we can do it by the entrance road to Morella. Everyone can choose based on their interests, their level and what they want. In any case, even using twice the expected time of two hours, the route can be completed in a reasonable time, and it is worth it, both taking it easy and enjoying its sportier side.
